About This Project
This project took a semi-detached property off gas heating completely. We removed the old boiler and the pipework that was no longer needed, then installed an air source heat pump outside, a new hot water cylinder indoors, and the pipework and controls that tie the whole system together.
Like every semi detached heat pump installation we carry out, it started with a room-by-room heat loss survey. That survey sets the size of the unit and shows which radiators can stay as they are and which need upsizing for the lower flow temperatures a heat pump runs at most efficiently.
The finished system gives the homeowner low-carbon heating and hot water all year round, with no gas bill and no boiler to service. As an ASHP conversion case study, it shows what a gas boiler to heat pump conversion actually involves on an ordinary UK home rather than on a new build designed for one from the start.

What it costs
Air Source Heat Pump Cost
The cost of an air source heat pump depends on your home, not on a price list. A heat pump is sized from your home's heat loss, not its floor area, so we measure that room by room at a free survey and then give you a fixed price in writing.
Your home's heat loss
The calculated heat demand, which sets the size of the heat pump.
Radiators and cylinder
Which radiators need upsizing for lower flow temperatures, and the right hot water cylinder.
Siting and pipework
Where the outdoor unit goes, and the pipe runs back to the cylinder and heating system.
Grant eligibility
How well your home holds its heat. A well-insulated home needs a smaller heat pump, which costs less to buy and to run.
