Loft Insulation Installation, Done to the Right Depth
Loft insulation is usually the cheapest and quickest upgrade a house can have, and most jobs are finished by our own team in a single visit with no disruption downstairs. The part that decides whether it actually works is the depth. Plenty of older homes still have a thin layer from whenever it was first laid, well short of what's recommended today, and that thin layer is doing far less than the owners think.
As loft insulation installers, we check what's already up there before quoting: whether it can be topped up or needs clearing out, whether the eaves are blocked, and whether anything is being crushed under storage boards. Compressed insulation loses much of its value, so if you use the loft for storage we fit raised boarding on legs above the new layer rather than laying boards straight on top.It's also the first thing we look at before quoting a heat pump or a heating upgrade, because a loft that holds its heat lets a smaller, cheaper-to-run system do the same job. If the walls are losing heat too, external wall insulation is the next step.
