Air source heat pump installation in Cardiff
Cardiff has whole streets of Victorian terraces, alongside inter-war semis and newer estates out towards Llanishen, Whitchurch and Pontprennau. Older solid-wall homes run a heat pump perfectly well, but they need more attention to radiator sizes and insulation than a modern build does. That's why the design for a Cardiff home starts from a room-by-room heat loss calculation rather than its floor area.
What the survey checks
We measure the heat loss in every room, check each radiator against the lower flow temperatures a heat pump runs at, and find the right spot for the outdoor unit and the hot water cylinder. Our own engineers cover Cardiff and South Wales, so the person who surveys your home is part of the team that installs the system.
Planning and funding in Wales
Most air source heat pumps in Wales are permitted development, but the conditions are not identical to England's, particularly on where the outdoor unit can sit. Funding differs too: the Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers Wales, while other help comes through the Welsh Warm Homes scheme rather than the English programmes. We check both against your Cardiff address before quoting.
Often done alongside a heat pump in Cardiff
- Loft Insulation in Cardiff — a lower heat loss means a smaller unit that costs less to run
- External Wall Insulation in Cardiff — the biggest single cut in heat loss for a solid-wall home
- Solar PV in Cardiff — daytime generation offsets part of the heat pump's electricity
Beyond Cardiff, the same in-house team carries out air source heat pump installation in Newport, Bridgend, Neath and Merthyr Tydfil. For how we approach the work anywhere, see our Air Source Heat Pump Installers page.
